Description

As consumers we have been warned about our carbon footprint for decades but gardeners and farmers are now using Biochar more and more to capture carbon.

What are the benefits of Biochar?

Soil health: Be it flowerbeds, raised beds or large pots, you can blend in a few handfuls of Biochar per square metre of soil and see multiple benefits. You'll notice improved soil health, drainage and ventilation, which leads to much better soil structure, less impaction and as a result, healthier plants!

Compost Bins & Wormeries: Mix dry Biochar into your composter or worm bedding, roughly 10–20% by volume. Alternatively soaking it in compost tea or worm leachate will super-charge the biochar to activate nutrients and microbes instantly.

Bokashi Bins: Another option is to layer the Biochar with Bokashi Bran for improved Bokashi breakdown and to absorb odours and moisture.

What is Biochar?

Carbon Gro biochar is charcoal made through pyrolysis (heating organic waste wood without oxygen). This carbon-negative process captures CO2 that would otherwise enter the atmosphere.

The creation of biochar is a carbon-negative process and acts as a carbon sink, helping to lower CO2 levels in the air. Once reintroduced into the soil, biochar can remain in the soil for thousands of years.

Incredibly, a single 5 litre pack sequesters approximately 6 kg of CO2, with its porous structure and large surface area making it ideal for long-term soil improvement.
